“In this paper I shall discuss how the computing profession has come to find its self in its current situation. I will examine those issues which form the basis of ethical interest, of which are most aware, and consequently are most concerned. In doing so, however, I hope be able to provide a means to indirectly identify those issues to which we have not expressed concern, and yet should. So that we may all work from a common frame of reference, I shall discuss how computing professionals have tended to view their professional roles in relation to society and humanity. Of course, I will conclude by reviewing our developing recognition of, and response to the ethical responsibilities raised by humanities massive integration of computing systems into the very fabric of society.”
